TAKI-BOARD RETRO BAKELITE BACKGAMMON SET - Free Shipping Worldwide
SOLD $6,100.00 Sold: Apr 30, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Up for auction: My personal Tak Morioka hand-crafted “Taki Retro” Backgammon Board. The set comes with vintage 1.75" butterscotch and dark green finger-dip Bakelite checkers, a 1.5" Bakelite doubling cube, two Robert A. Neumann dice cups and four sets of 9/16" precision dice. Also included: a 4.5"x4" dice pouch and protective carry case that match the tweed fabric found on the exterior of the board. Closed dimensions of the board measure 21"x15" It has a padded leather handle and board tag. I do not have a key for the locking clasps which work perfectly. Board, checkers, and cube are all in very good condition as shown in the photographs. I have owned this backgammon set for 25 years and for the most part, it was played on only at American Backgammon Tour (ABT) never for side play. Since I stopped playing in ABT tournaments eight years ago, I think it is best for the board to acquire a new appreciative owner. After individually purchasing the magnificent checkers and doubling cube on eBay in the late 1990s, I commissioned Taki to create a board to compliment them. I won a couple of state titles using this set. My last major win with it was at the 2012 Chicago Open. You can see the board in action on You Tube by searching “Mr. Backgammon Lucky.” Tak Morioka, an internationally recognized master boardmaker craftsman, has made backgammon sets for Michael Jordan and Nicole Kidman. Presently, he is no longer taking orders for new boards. Taki-Boards almost never show up on eBay. This could be your last chance to own an outstanding backgammon set and a work of art. Don’t let this opportunity slip by. As is my usual practice, bidding on this item begins at 77¢ and there is NO RESERVE. To simplify matters, I am offering FREE SHIPPING to anywhere in the world. The auction closes on Tuesday, April 30 at 12:00pm noon Chicago Time. Mark your calendar. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
Note: This item has been sold and is no longer available. This page serves as a historical price reference for Board Game collectors and appraisers.
